PACE meet with new Minister for Aboriginal Affairs

It’s been many years since a Minister responsible for Aboriginal Affairs has travelled to the Pilbara. This changed recently changed when newly appointed Minister, Ben Wyatt, met with local Aboriginal organisations in South Hedland.

Coordinated by Pilbara Aboriginal Corporations and Enterprises (PACE), an active collaboration of over 11 different Aboriginal organisations, the meeting was an opportunity to meet with the new Treasurer and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Ben Wyatt.

Discussions focused on issues facing Aboriginal people in the region, including proposed changes to the Aboriginal Heritage Act, a lack of effective services from local government agencies and the importance of Aboriginal engagement in policy making.

PACE members are working together to improve services, influence Government policy and promote the interests of Pilbara Aboriginal people. The Minister also launched the new PACE website which we encourage people to visit to find out more about our work, membership and upcoming meetings.
